#CoolCapSelfie day raises £3,000 for Warwick Cancer Research Centres
Warwick’s first ever #CoolCapSelfie Day charity event hit campus on Wednesday 9 March.
People were encouraged to post photos of themselves wearing cool caps on social media using the hashtag ‘#CoolCapSelfie’, along with an option to donate £2 to Warwick’s own cancer research centres.
Prizes including chocolate, alcohol and money were on offer for the best selfies taken.
Bucket collections and bake sales also took place on the day.
The organisers of the initiative set out to use social media to both raise funds for Warwick’s cancer research centres, and raise awareness of the centres and the work that they do.

Professor Annie Young’s work was the inspiration behind the hashtag, as she wants to run a clinical trial into ‘cool caps’ which are worn by patients during chemotherapy and can help reduce hair loss.
Hair loss is one of the most psychologically damaging side-effects of chemotherapy. Scalp cooling caps have been around since the 1970s, but have never been subjected to a clinical trial and are not offered everywhere.
A total of £3000.38 was raised from the event.
