Warwick rugby club streaker crosses pitch during WASPS game
A Warwick rugby club student crossed the field naked during a WASPS game against Quins in the Ricoh Arena, on Sunday 28 February.
An anonymous source told the Boar that the student in question got suspended from his rugby club until the end of his studies at the University.
Warwick Students’ Union and Warwick Sport have taken the situation very seriously, added the source.
It may cost the Warwick’s rugby club to lose their partnership with the WASPS.
An anonymous student reacted to this information: “It is easy to get caught up in the university experience and it is harmless fun.
“However, the student should have kept in mind that not just university students were watching, but also potentially families and children. That being said, a suspension is too harsh: he did not hurt anyone.”
Another source stated: “I understand that the university wants to take this case seriously since their reputation is at stake.
“However a ban is an overreaction. What makes Warwick great is the fact that we have the opportunity to be part of amazing sports team to have the complete university experience.”
A friend of the student refuted the decision of the Warwick’s rugby club: “I understand the rugby club might be angry. But knowing the student and his total devotion to this sport and how much rugby represents in his life, I think this decision is highly unfair.”
The situation entertained members of the audience during the game: many tweets described him as the ‘wasp streaker’, and many posted videos and pictures on their account.
Tweets such as “Can’t wait to see the footage”, “Big up to the streaker” or the hashtag #madeourday can be found on the platform.
The student has decided to appeal against the club’s decision.
