Pint of Purple: Imogen Cooper, Deputy Books Editor

IMG_0735[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hat books are you reading at the moment?

With all the books I have to get through for my English Lit degree, it can be hard to find time to read for fun, but at the moment I’m reading Coming Up for Air by George Orwell. I’ve only just started it but I’m loving it so far – 1984 is one of the greatest novels I’ve ever read so I knew it would be good!

Who is your favourite literary character?

There are so many to choose from but I’d have to go with Elizabeth Bennet. She’s such a strong woman, particularly in the era in which Jane Austen was writing. And we’d all like to find our own Mr. Darcy…

What is the first book you remember reading?

Probably A Very Hungry Caterpillar – it’s still an absolute classic!

What is your all-time favourite book?

That’s such a difficult question! But I think my favourite book ever is The Murder at the Vicarage – it was the first Agatha Christie novel I read and I’ve been hooked ever since!

If you wrote an autobiography, what would be the title?

Something witty and hopefully with a good pun, but at the moment it’s a work in progress!

Kindle vs Books?

Definitely books! I get that Kindles are portable and it’s great that they can store so many books, but nothing beats that feeling when you first open a real book and allow yourself to be transported to another world.

How much is a pint of purple?

I’ve only ever bought pitchers!
