Leamington car crash kills cyclist
Police investigations are underway after a collision near Leamington Parade caused a cyclist’s death.
The accident, which was caused by a 24 year-old driver, occurred around 10am Saturday 20 February on Ufton Road, Harbury.
The 33 year-old cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene ‘despite extensive efforts’ to save him, said a spokesman for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
The driver, who according to the spokesman was ‘uninjured’, was later released on bail until early April whilst investigations continue.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, which was the ‘second serious incident involving a cyclist on Warwickshire’s roads in less than 48 hours’ according to the Coventry Telegraph.
In light of this incident, Ben Farrar, first-year Mathematics student, commented ‘more should be done to avoid accidents involving cyclists, such as the introduction of cycle lanes in the area.’
