#VarsityOnesToWatch: Netball
What does Varsity mean to you?
Passion, dedication, a love of winning, and a ridiculous amount of extra fitness sessions. Varsity is renowned to be one of the Netball Club’s biggest games of the year. The competition is always fierce and we are never guaranteed a win without putting on a fight.
This year, despite only the first team competing, preparation for the game is bigger than ever. With all 130 members towing the line to push the top 7 to the golden goal, Varsity is not just an opportunity to prove that we are the better side, but a chance to showcase our impeccable team spirit and love for the sport we play. Varsity is our time to prove to all netball isn’t just a simple secondary-school sport, but a game of speed, power and attitude.
With a history of wins and losses, this year the University of Warwick Women’s Netball club is ready to take on Coventry once again, and it promises to be the biggest match yet.

Which of your players should we keep an eye out for and why?
This year only our first team shall be competing. Keep a look out for our Varsity veteran finalists, giving their final performance as Warwick Netballers and our new fresher, Jessica Oshodi. Jess has played outstandingly well throughout her first term at University securing her place as the only fresher in the first team from the start. Consistent and powerful, she’s sure to make an impact in one of our biggest games of the season.
In one sentence, why should people get behind Team Warwick and come and support you in Varsity?
Team Warwick embodies an unstoppable drive and determined energy to win, together with the UWWNC’s passion and infectious team spirit, our varsity showdown is not one to be missed!
Is this your biggest game of the year?
For the netball club, Varsity is a very big deal. It encompasses, tradition, sportsmanship and is an excellent display of our teamwork. It is an event that brings the netball club together and is thoroughly enjoyed by all members, whether they are playing or spectating.

What is your favourite Varsity moment?
Last year, carried by a record-breaking number of spectators, we demonstrated exemplary teamwork as a squad and showcased fantastic netball across the three games. Looking up at the balconies in the Main Hall rammed full of supporters, waving hand-made banners and sporting Team Warwick face paint was an incredible feeling. The constant singing, chanting and cheering spurred the teams on and for me that is what makes varsity an unforgettable experience for all.
The icing on the cake was the first team’s game being the winning Varsity fixture. The team brought Warwick to victory with a final score of 49-19! At the end of our game, not only were we celebrating our success, but also an overall win for the university and that was a great feeling.
