Leamington cannabis factory discovered

A man was arrested on Wednesday 23 December after police officers discovered hundreds of plants of cannabis in an unoccupied house. The house was thought to be being used as a Leamington cannabis factory.

The 23 year-old allegedly used this empty house in Hanworth Close, Lillington – located in north-east Leamington- as a cannabis factory.

After confiscating the growing equipment as well as the plants under a warrant, police officers arrested this man suspected to be connected to the case.

No information has been released concerning his real implication, however the
suspect has been released on bail until January 26.

Cannabis cases are not new in Leamington: in 2010, 40 small plants were discovered in Clarendon Court, and in 2012 three cannabis farms were found in Leamington; all properties were empty but all bedrooms had been transformed into ‘growing rooms’.

In the United-Kingdom, the law concerning cannabis varies, but the charge for someone producing and supplying can be up to 14 years in prison and a fine.

A second-year Politics student stated: ‘I do believe he shouldn’t be prosecuted lightly, regardless of whether or not you agree with legalisation it is still against the law, and even more if it’s a factory implying distribution and dealing’

Another student from the same course, argued that legalising cannabis would do more harm than good, and the man should be punished according to the current law.
