Student rejected from Kelsey’s for wearing floral print trousers
Second-year English Literature student Shingi Mararike was rejected twice from Leamington student bar Kelsey’s, allegedly based on what he was wearing.
Shingi said that he went to the bar with one other person just before midnight on Saturday 17 October, and was refused entry because he was wearing floral print trousers (pictured below).
After leaving to change into black tracksuit bottoms with a dress shirt and leather jacket, Shingi was allegedly rejected from the bar a second time.
He was apparently told: “People who wear tracksuit bottoms have been known to cause problems, here.”
A sign outside the bar says “No tracksuits. No hats.” It does not stipulate any other dress that would deny someone entry to the bar.
Shingi told the Boar: “Funnily enough, I saw a lot of people looking pretty dressed down leaving and entering.”
When asked how he felt about the decision, Shingi said: “In all honesty, I was pretty shocked because I’ve seen all manner of fancy dress in Kelsey’s – people wearing togas, mario costumes etc. The decision honestly baffled me.”
One of the bouncers at Kelsey’s has previously been accused of assaulting a second-year student. The bar, which is a popular hangout for Warwick students, did not reply to the allegations.
Kelsey’s did not reply immediately to a request for comment on this issue.
UPDATED 14:26 18/10/15 to include mention of Kelsey’s dress code excluding tracksuits.

Everyone knows the Kelsey’s bouncers make up the rules as they go along. They all like to think they own the place and if you try to query any of it you won’t get far because of their lack of English.
But the main question is where did he buy those trousers and how soon can I buy a pair
Consider people are regularly let in wearing fancy dress you would assume that there is more to this story. Either there is a history of this student causing trouble OR the security staff having an issue.
Either way, I doubt it was anything to do with his trousers.
In the interests of transparency, doesn’t the Boar think it’s appropriate to mention that Shingi is the Sports Editor?
We reported the incident because a student was turned away from kelsey’s on grounds that were not given as reason to be turned away. This would be relevant whether the student was a member of the boar or not.
Damn I love those pants! You go dude.
Security got probably all insecure about their boring wardrobes.
