Where’s Warwick (the bear)?

A group of Warwick students have been hiding Warwick-branded bears around campus this year as part of a new project to celebrate Warwick’s 50th anniversary. Warwick, a small cuddly bear wears a University-branded sweater and scarf, will be travelling around campus over the next three terms. The initiative, called ‘Where’s Warwick?’, has been launched by Warwick Medieval Society and RAG in association with over 30 Warwick clubs an societies to mark the University’s 50th year. The project has been set up to celebrate the history of the University and its campus. As part of the project, each week during term-time, a different society will hide the bear somewhere around the University campus. The society will then post a photo of Warwick the Bear on the event’s Facebook page and will invite students to guess where he has been hidden. When the location of Warwick the Bear is revealed each week, the societies will provide a history of the part of campus where the bear was hidden.

Jesal Sheta, who is leading the project, commented: “It brings together various clubs and societies that may not interact with each other in a normal given situation and this collaboration is looking to be one of the biggest collaborations this university has seen in a long time.” Jesal also added: “The reason why a bear is used in the Where’s Warwick Initiative is because I believe over the years it is one animal that has been associated with Warwick and the university.” Students reacted with mixed views on the project. Alex Shaw, a second-year Economics and Politics student, stated: The concept is interesting, but I feel it’s a bit silly.” However, Jennie Watkin, a second-year Ancient History and Classical Archaeology student, was more enthusiastic, she commented: “That’s such a cute idea, it’s really lovely, I can’t wait to get involved.”
