Warwick Students’ Union (SU) has identified the student responsible for deliberately setting off the fire alarms at Skool Dayz in week eight. The individual has been banned indefinitely from all licensed premises at the SU. This includes the Copper Rooms, Terrace Bar and food outlets. He has also been banned from attending all events which are run by the SU.
The Warwick University community participated in a “Dress Down Day” for cancer research by wearing jeans and Christmas jumpers on Friday 19 December 2014. Collectively more than £2,100 was raised including Gift Aid to support pioneering cancer research at Warwick University. The £2,100 raised could fully fund tests on samples, racks for gel electrophoresis, chemotherapy pumps, seven days of translational research or three and a half days of testing new medicines.
A publication about Wikipedia written by a Warwick professor has been chosen as the ‘Book of the Week’ by Times Higher Education (THE). The book was the work of Dr Nathaniel Tkacz, from the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies, and addresses the subject of open politics. ‘Wikipedia and the Politics of Openness’ is the first comprehensive critique of the role of openness in digital politics and beyond.
The doorman of a Coventry nightclub was stabbed at 2.45am on New Year’s Day. The incident took place at Club M in the city-centre. The doorman stepped in on a group of men acting suspiciously in the smoking area, but when he asked them to leave he was attacked. The investigation is ongoing, but so far no-one has been arrested. The man survived and will be discharged from hospital soon.
A man has died in hospital on 7 January following a lorry crash at a set of road works in Coventry. The accident took place at the Toll Bar island. The driver of the lorry is now assisting the local police force with their enquiries. Special officers have been appointed to aid and address the grievances of the family.
