Guide Dogs for the Blind Association opens new shop in Leamington

The first ever Guide Dogs Association charity shop opened in Leamington Spa on Wednesday 3 March.

The Guide Dogs Association has encouraged residents of Leamington Spa to get involved in the cause by contributing in different ways.

They require unwanted gifts, clothing, toys and games as well as books, jewellery, crockery and glassware to sell in the shop.

For residents with spare time, the new shop is also seeking volunteers to help each week.

The association, founded in 1934, is a British charity which provides thousands of blind and partially sighted people across the UK with guide dogs.

This is to ensure that they remain independent and free, despite visual impairments.

The charity also helps in other ways. It campaigns to ensure that guide dog owners have access to public places, it carries out research into the causes of sight loss and ways to prevent further sight loss and it finds the best ways to breed and train dogs.

So far, the Guide Dogs service website states that the charity has “helped approximately 30,000 people who are blind or partially sighted.”
