Secret sharing website launched at Warwick
‘PostSecret Warwick’, a website allowing students and staff to submit their secrets anonymously, was launched on February 18.
Warwick PostSecret acts as a mode of support for students and staff at the university.
A spokesperson from the project stated: “People often find it difficult to share things that are personal to them, for a number of reasons. PostSecret is a space for people to do that while remaining anonymous.”
The concept of PostSecret was first created by Frank Warren as an ongoing art project in January 2005. Warren’s vision for the project was the creation of of an accepting space; one which was inspiring for the reader of the secret and relieving for the writer.
The spokesperson added: “We saw the benefits of the original PostSecret and decided that it would be worthwhile bringing it to campus. There’s a few other universities with PostSecret [such as Nottingham University] and some of them are really popular.”
Having viewed the website, second-year English Literature student Matt Gherardi said that : “It seems funny but also quite touching. Some of it hits closer to home than I might like.”
In October 2013 an NUS report found that 20 percent of students considered themselves to have mental health problems and 13 percent admitted suicidal thoughts.
Warwick PostSecret also acts as a mental health hub. The site gives information about the services available on and off campus.
