Women robbed and threatened with rape in Leamington Spa

Warwick students express their concerns on living in Leamington Spa as a woman has been robbed and threatened with rape.

A woman was robbed and threatened with rape in Leamington Spa, known for its student life, on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at around 6.45pm at Leam Terrace. The woman was on the phone when a white male, said to be in his twenties, and of stocky build, attacked her and attempted to grab her handbag.

She had her iPhone stolen. The alleged had been following her for sometime before making his move. He is said to have gone in the direction of Radford Road after the assault.

He is said to have been wearing a grey hoody, jeans and a woolen cap.

The victim was checked by ambulance staff and has not been harmed. She was, however, very shaken by the incident.

The police are investigating and have carried out house-to-house enquiries.

Shazma Alam, first year Economics and Industrial Organisation student commented: “Incidents like this are an obvious cause of worry and concern for me, as a female student who will be living in Leamington later this year.

“However, I would still prefer living in Leamington rather than other places, where there are more frequent reports of such incidents. I hope the man responsible is caught.”

Police have asked any witnesses to the incident to come forward with information by calling 101. In case they wish to remain anonymous, they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or here.
