New farm shop to open on Stoneleigh Road
A small shop promising all the best local vegetables and meat from Warwickshire has been established on Stoneleigh Road.
The Brook Farm Shop, near Gibbet Hill Road, has recently opened. Its owner, Claire Hartry , promises to get students away from fast food and back to healthy eating!
Ms Hartry, who was in academia before opening her own shop, admitted to being “a hippy at heart.
“I have loved food since before I can remember, so opening a shop like this has always been a dream of mine.”
Her main aim is to provide quality foods from local businesses which will help the community.
She sees one of the main problems with massive corporations, such as Tesco, as being that “you will pick up a tomato and it will be from Spain, or another hot country. We’ve got to be aware of small scale farmers and help them as much as possible.”
One of the ways she plans to distribute food from local farmers is to set up a box scheme, where boxes of vegetables grown locally can be ordered and delivered to drop off points.
Although she hopes to share her hippy spirit with the whole community, she has a special consideration for the students of Warwick, hinting that a “ten percent discount may be upcoming in the future…after extensive flyering!”
The Brook Farm Shop will provide a platform for students looking to support their local farmers, or simply wanting something fresh and healthy to cook.
