Indian scholarships launched for 2014

A series of scholarships for Indian students starting their Masters degree in 2014 has been launched by the University to attract the best of the Indian student population.

The scheme includes several full scholarships for various departments.

Departments offering these scholarships include the Centre for Cultural Policy Studies, the Department of Economics, the School of Engineering, the School of Life Sciences, the School of Law: Upendra Baxi Scholarship, the Department of Politics and International Studies and Warwick Manufacturing Group.

Vice-chancellor Nigel Thrift commented: “The University of Warwick has long-established links with India, both through our student population and our research collaborations.

“These awards further strengthen our ties to India and we look forward to welcoming the brightest and best Indian students to Warwick next year.”

Indian students welcomed the scheme with a positive outlook and enthusiasm towards the opportunities it could open up.

Danesh Sethna, first-year Economics student, commented: “I think it’s an amazing opportunity for individuals who have the knowledge to succeed but lack the finances to do so. It also goes to show how multi culturally accepting Warwick is.”

Third-year Philosophy, Politics and Economics student Aditi Jalan told the Boar: “As an Indian student myself, I find that this opens so many doors for people who couldn’t afford to, or even dream of going overseas for a degree.

“It’s absolutely fantastic that these opportunities are now available, and I look forward to the university further strengthening its relationship with India.”

This announcement comes at an opportune moment as Professor Abhinay Muthoo, head of Warwick’s Department of Economics, visits India to promote the Warwick Policy Lab, an initiative designed to provide an evidence-based perspective for policy-makers.
