Term One: tears, triumphs and…a bit of poetry!
Basketball
“My favourite moment of term one was the first half Warwick Men played against Loughborough Seconds in November.
We were undersized and looked as though we would be second best, but instead of flinching and being intimidated we took the game to them. We finished the second quarter level, running through our sets well and making tough baskets.
We defended with incredible resilience, with every player working his hardest. Our intensity was phenomenal and really shocked the league leaders, almost clinching an improbable victory.
At the end of the game the coach told us how impressed he was.”

Squash
“Our best moment was on the Wednesday of week 7, without a doubt.
All three men’s teams were at home, and crucial BUCS matches were being played on all six courts at the same time.
With supporters lining the balconies, all three teams triumphed. The 1st won 4-1 against arch-rivals Birmingham thirds in a crucial match to take them to second in the league. Meanwhile the 2nds claimed a nail-biting 3-2 win over Nottingham 3rds which went right down to the wire. And the 3rds were clinical in taking down the University of East Anglia (UEA) 5-0.
An amazing day of squash!”

Athletics
“One of the most significant moments of this term had to be the Birmingham Cross-Country League Race, hosted by Leamington Athletics Club at Newbold Comyn.
It was by all accounts an atrociously muddy and arduous course.
Heavy on the mind was the legacy of the club, which historically has alternated between the first and second divisions like a pendulum.
Special mention must go to Ben Leach who finished the race with a broken tibia (although I can’t condone this medically, it epitomises the warrior spirit that this club stands for). Also to the freshers that succeeded in making both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams.”

Lacrosse
“It’s been an incredible term from start to finish, but week 5 stands out as a personal highlight for both myself and the club.
Winning 5 competitive matches from 5 across the week, with substantial goal differences throughout, was absolutely brilliant and a testament to the club’s hard work and dedication.
We saw complete beginners play in their first development tournament. They really impressed everyone with how much skill they had already learned in five short weeks. We ended the week on a high with the girls winning their tournament.
It’s been a brilliant term for Warwick Lacrosse!”
