Paralympian secures place at Warwick Uni
London 2012 Paralympian Amy Ottaway has secured a place at the University of Warwick for the upcoming 2013-14 academic year.
Amy competed for Team GB in the London Paralympics last year in goalball, a sport designed for those with limited sight.
She contributed to the success of her team as they achieved the first win for any British team in a team sport in their match against Brazil. Overall, the team reached the quarter-finals, where Amy scored a goal.
With the help of her family, friends and guide dog, Abba, Amy achieved an A* in English Literature and A grades in Government and Politics, and History.
She has comfortably secured her offer to study History and Politics at the University of Warwick.
“I’m feeling both relieved and ecstatic, I needed three As and so I’ve beaten my expectations,” she exclaimed.
Described by Wymondham College Principle Melvyn Roffe as “an inspiration”, Amy adapted her studies around training as well as restrictions related to her limited sight.
On reflecting on her studies, Amy stated, “it does take me longer to do things but I’ve had to find ways around it – there’s always a solution. I typed my exams, had breaks and used electronic books.”
Her recent tweets on Twitter reiterated her excitement of achieving her grades and of starting university in the upcoming academic year:
