The Wack Album (A Rap-Review)
In the spirit of the band whose album I’m about to review,
I thought I’d stick down my words using rap-tacular glue,
I ain’t got much soul and my funk is kinda rusty
My beats far from dope and my dictionary dusty;
Still, I always love it when goofy comics MC:
Adam Sandler and “Weird Al” just some picks from history;
But the art kinda died,
Rolled over and gave up,
Until some Californian graduates shouted “HEY WORLD – WHAT’S UP?!”
Their names Akiva, Jorma and Andy,
Their comical verse sweeter than candy
They rapped about Narnia,
Speedy ejaculation,
Put their junk in a box
And kick-started a nautical fascination.
Their first two albums hit the genre apex,
Bringing sensory delight akin to just having sex.
Celebrities collaborated all night and each day,
Yep, The Lonely Island were here
And they were here to stay.
So now we have some context,
Some reason to this rhyme,
Let’s get straight-up analytical,
And judge if their newbie is worth your dime.
It’s called The Wack Album:
20 new tracks for your funny-bone’s gain,
With special guests Adam Levine, Hugh Jackman and T-Pain.
Some of it we’ve already heard before,
But for the most part, there’s fresh content in store
Early songs ‘Diaper Money’ and ‘Semicolon’ are only so-so
But things pick up radically with ‘Spring Break Anthem’ and ‘YOLO’;
The irreverence and beats sync up like 12-year olds on ‘Go-Karts’.
Much of the content layered with satirical smarts,
They take homophobes and masculine identity to task,
In the laughs their commentary can gently bask,
Of course some tracks are just wicked phat,
The inappropriate wonder of ‘I F****d My Aunt’
Or random brilliance of ‘Where Brooklyn At?’
It’s not quite as awesome as their last two CDs,
But maybe after such high standards we were too hard to please.
This album’s wit and its warmth is the key:
A comedic wonder and poetic ode to RnB.
Expectations were high,
But the boys done good,
Delivering another cut of geeky absurdity to blast out in your hood.
