PhD scheme between Monash Warwick alliance
A new PhD programme will be introduced in September as part of the Monash Warwick alliance.
Warwick students will have the opportunity to study at Monash University, located in Australia, for at least 12 months of the three year PhD programme.
Students may start their degree at either Warwick or Monash, depending on their individual circumstances, but all students on the joint PhD will spend time at both universities as a fundamental part of their course.
Monash-Warwick Alliance funding has been allocated to support up to ten new students each year, in addition to any externally funded students on the programme. At least £500,000/$750,000 AUD of funding has been put towards the scheme so far.
The joint degrees will initially be offered in a range of areas from the faculties of Science, Arts, Engineering and Information Technology, however this list will be updated as new subjects are confirmed.
In regards to why this programme was initiated, international press officer Anna Blackaby said: “The primary objective of the opportunity to collaborate new areas of research. The Monash-Warwick Alliance is a wide-ranging partnership taking in several key objectives.
“One of these is to enable both universities to offer an enhanced student experience to both undergraduates and postgraduates. The joint PhD programme will help us deliver this.
“Students will be fully enrolled at both universities and have access all support and opportunities available to PhD students at both institutions.’’
In regards to entry requirements, she added: “This programme is intended for students of the highest calibre. The selection process will therefore be extremely competitive.”
Research areas include sustainability, culture and society, and innovation. Warwick Graduate School will be responsible for the running and management of this programme.
