Cat takes welfare

**Cathryn Turhan has been announced as the next Welfare officer for the academic year 2013-14. The third year Classics student received 1,730 votes.**

Cat was overjoyed, commenting: “When I saw the list of candidates I thought it was a write-off, I’m delighted, it’s been an absolutely fantastic week”.

Cat has pledged to provide more information for freshers and promote discussions on mental health.

Fourth-year French and Italian candidate Amy Swain had the second highest number of votes, with 1,580, 150 less than Cat. Amy led on a campaign to get ‘more for your money’ as well as increasing integration and campaigning for better buses.

Cat beat seven other candidates to the post: third-year Psychology student Hava Kranat, third-year Law student Ellen White, fourth-year Italian student Ruth Robinson, Sociology finalist Karis Baxter, fourth-year WMG MSC student Chris Drake and English Literature and Creative Writing finalist Louis Bond.

Third-year Classics student Owen Evans praised Cat’s election: “I’ve done classics with Cat for three years now and there really isn’t a more deserving person for the welfare role. Good luck next year, I’m sure you’ll do a great job.”

Third-year Maths student Callum Calvert was pleased with the result: “Cat’s going to make a great welfare office I think, based on a pretty neat and well done campaign”.
