Ant Scott takes Socs
Ant Scott, a third-year Economics student, has been elected the Societies officer for 2013/14.
The other candidates running for the position were Shayan ‘Shaggy’ Amin, George Chester, Rea Malhotra Mukhtyar.
One of Mr Scott’s key manifesto pledges is to cut ‘red-tape’ for societies by replacing the paper form system with an online submission system.
Scott said: “I hoped I would but I had a low point earlier today where I thought shaggy would beat me.”
The current Societies Sabbatical officer, Silkie Cragg, will remain in office until August when Ant Scott will take over.
Warwick SU describes the the Societies Officer role as: ‘Supports all of the student societies and is the first port of call for any student executive or member if they need help for anything society related.
‘Working closely with the staff in the Student Activities Room, He/she helps students deliver all the amazing events and activities which we enjoy here at Warwick. Central to this role is the personal development our members experience when involved in societies.
‘The Societies Officer allocates all the societies’ budgets for the following year, and manages the essential training for every society executive committee, which gives them the skills and facilities to ensure their society is as successful as possible. He/she is also the key contact with the University’s Careers and Skills Department.’
