Hurray for Red Nose Day

**Symptoms of a second fresher’s flu are spreading across campus, mainly through charitable victims, in the form of bulbous red noses that are appearing in preparation for Red Nose Day. **

It’s that time of the year again! When celebrities’ jet off to sunny places and shed tears for the day, unfortunately their tears are too salty and there aren’t enough of them to give any sustenance to the thirsty children. Africa, you keep One Direction. On Comic Relief Bake Off Mary Berry looked disapprovingly at celebrity soggy bottoms while Paul Hollywood poked strudels.

The all too brief clips, of affected people, and we are all affected directly or indirectly in some way by the issues Comic Relief highlights, can often be forgotten in favour of the glitz and glamour of the event. This occasion is not just about the comedy, laugh, but remember why you’re laughing. While all this is on our television screens it is important to remember that across our campus selfless Warwick students have and will be working relentlessly to raise money for charity. This organisation has raised the millions it has due to young people who are willing to give up their own time and money in order to help others. There will be leg waxes in lectures for a brave few, I can assure you that this is extremely painful, bar crawls where students will reluctantly drink each other under the table, all in the name of charity.

You may see the odd busker scattered around campus serenading you on your way to your lecture. A limbo competition, I may have to enter this one, having practiced on various car barriers after games of ring of fire (do not do this.) Finally, the world record for most eggs smashed against a forehead will be attempted, no doubt by a budding athlete who has trained Rocky montage style in preparation for the big day.

Events are on all week but the Piazza will host them all day this Friday so get down there otherwise you are a bad person. The election campaigns are in the past, the Piazza will look less like a cardboard paint bomb has gone off. We can look forward to seeing legs stripped of their hair in lectures in place of the faux care bear routine that promises you the world in a day. We can stop worrying about potential cross campus leaflet ambushes and most importantly, start fundraising. If as much effort goes into bringing attention to the fact it’s Comic Relief week as it did to the elections then a lot of money can be raised for charity.

Remember the 15th of March, at least stick a nose on, no need to worry about what you look like, you’re not all that anyway.
