Warwick launches Australian internship opportunity
The University of Warwick, in collaboration with Monash University, is offering an opportunity for one student to do an internship in Australia as part of an exchange programme.
The experience offers a fifteen-day part-time paid internship, and helps the student develop skills and knowledge in consultancy, analysis, technology and research.
Green Steps is an award-winning sustainability educational programme at Monash University and was founded in 2000.
Its aim is to “bridge the gap between knowledge acquired at university and the skills required to create environmental change”, and provides a more practical approach to green industry.
Mark Boulet, Green Steps manager at Monash Sustainability Institute, said: “Green steps is a group of Monash University students who want to work within organisations to encourage them to reduce their environmental footprint.
“They realised there was a gap between what they were learning from their lectures and how to actually apply that within an organisation, so I thought we needed to get some practical skills that can fill that gap.”
This programme is one of the results of Warwick’s collaboration with Monash, and centres around sustainability issues on campus and in local areas.
Over 600 students from eight universities in Australia have completed the programme by working in partnership with over 450 different companies and organisations.
Green Steps also provides students with the confidence to work in a professional environment, and encourages them to make contacts so they have further opportunities for work experience and careers.
In 2012, ten Warwick students were involved with Green Steps. They worked with the Estates Office on campus by creating a walking trail, undertaking an environmental assessment of University House, and undertaking an investigation into water usage in campus accommodation.
To apply for this year’s internship, students can visit this webpage and fill out an application before 22 March.
