Editor’s Oscar Picks
As the botox filled, designer clothing attired members of cinema’s A- list descend upon the Dolby theatre of Los Angeles, California and make there way down the fabled red carpet, film fans around the world are left with the perennial question of who will win a gleaming Oscar at the 85th annual academy awards.
This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Family Guy creator and comedy roast host Seth MacFarlane, a fantastic choice to attempt to counteract the staleness that has crept into the ceremony. Staleness that was most evidently displayed last year with Billy Crystal hosting for the 10th time (albeit competently).
Seth MacFarlane will surely follow Ricky Gervais’ example at the Golden Globes of treading the treacherous line between mocking and insulting those in attendance, adding a much needed injection of suspense and excitement into the presentation of the ceremony.
By choosing Seth, the organisers have also ensured a greater proportion of young viewers will tune into the awards, keen to see a comic they can relate to poke fun at the usually untouchable members of Hollywood society.
I for one am looking forward to seeing how he does and crossing my fingers for a possible cameo by Family Guy favourites Stewie and Brian.
As I did last year, I will attempt to select those (from the most highly publicised categories) I personally deem worthy of picking up the famous award this time round, as well as selecting those who I feel will probably win despite my hopes to the contrary.
