Skool Dayz engagement couple revealed

**The first ‘Skool Dayz’ event of term on Saturday October 20 was briefly interrupted when Daniel Williams took to the stage, seized the microphone, got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Katie Marczus.**

She accepted, and was subsequently cheered by half of the crowd as the other half either stood in bemusement or carried on dancing oblivious to anything out of the ordinary. However, at first mystery remained as to who the couple actually were.

David Whitcombe, third-year Morse student, was at the event. He said: “It was really surreal – even as he proposed the party just seemed to carry on all around them.”

Following a post on the Facebook page ‘University of Warwick Memes’, news of the engagement spread across campus and the student body. The SU even took to Facebook on the Wednesday morning in a plea for anybody who knew the couple to come forward with their names.

At this point rumours were circulating about the couple’s identity. From stories about them being love-struck first-years, to an alleged affiliation with the Warwick University basketball team, none of which were substantiated.

A lot of the subsequent student discussion revolved around the choice of location for a proposal of marriage, with a clear divide in opinions. One popular comment on the post in the Memes page said: “Great choice of location to make one of the most important decisions of your life. Where’s the wedding going to be – Evolve?”

“I never thought he would ask me this soon,” Ms Marczus said. “Dan felt it was the right time, and when I saw him on stage down on one knee, my heart just felt really warm. It was like I was in a fairy-tale dream. I can’t ask for a better person to marry than my Daniel.”

Nick Swain, President of the SU, was also in attendance and told the _Boar_: “I think the whole thing is brilliant. It was an expression of love in front of hundreds of watching people, which takes a lot of guts.

“As for people asking ‘why do it at Skool Dayz?’ I think we need to know more about the happy couple before jumping to conclusions. They may have first met at Skool Dayz, or at another SU event and having the happiest moment of their life to date on that stage was actually very romantic indeed.”

After several replies to the SU’s plea, the couple were identified. It is claimed that Daniel works at the University, and they reguarly attend Warwick SU events together.
