Sammy’s back – in Leamington

The Big Issue vendor known to many students simply as ‘Sammy’ has moved to a new spot in Leamington Spa.

He is now to be found outside River Island on the Parade.

The controversial magazine salesman was barred from selling on campus at the end of the last academic year, having his official vendor’s card removed following a series of complaints to the University over his conduct.

It had been rumoured that Sammy was to return to his designated spot outside Costcutter on the piazza this year, but the University has dismissed the claim as “not true”.

The University has had a Big Issue presence for several years, and was originally introduced to campus by current Retail Operations Director Mark Potter.

The agreement between the University and the Big Issue states that vendors may only use the campus in term time. It is believed that another vendor may be introduced at the start of this term.
