Melody’s Echo Chamber

As soon as the opening track of the record, ‘I Follow You’ kicks in, you immediately sense the delicate balance between the soft mesmerising tones of the vocals and the influence of a solid guitar riff. Having met as two artists in their own right, Melody Prochet, formerly of My Bee’s Garden, and Kevin Parker, of Tame Impala, collaborated to write, record and produce the self titled _Melody’s Echo Chamber_. The record was mostly created in Perth, Australia, however the lyrics were recorded in Provence in Prochet’s Grandfather’s home, giving the album more depth and intrigue and making these tracks so hypnotic.

The dynamic is an undeniable success. Prochet’s voice is stunning and her soothing sound is reminiscent of Nina Persson of The Cardigans – a sure fire way to anyone’s heart. _Melody’s Echo Chamber_ isn’t sing-a-long pop, it’s dream pop that comes in waves of sound, with enough ebbs and swells to draw you in for more.

No track opens in the same way. Prochet will rock you from the crackly bass tones of ‘Crystallised’ to pure ethereal vocals in ‘Quand Vas Tu Rentrer?’, creating Sunday music that will still keep you on your toes. Parker’s Tame Impala influence shows with the distinct guitar riffs in certain tracks and it seems that this collaboration has given Prochet’s floaty style more direction and kick, yet still managing to keep the ethereal essence of her earlier works.

The opening guitar melody of ‘I Follow You’ drifts effortlessly into the subsequent drum beat setting the tone for the debut of Prochet’s vocals, “You never showed me how/Much you cared when I was gone”. This track is both gentle and heartfelt but with the structure and strength of the accompanying guitar and drums and sets up the album perfectly.

The interchanging style and vibe of the album makes it clear that this is still very much an experimental piece; nevertheless, Prochet’s lyrical style is unique and compelling enough to give the record a sense of continuity and intrigue.

_Melody’s Echo Chamber_ is a fun, lovely, dream pop journey through two artists’ perspectives on music and the result is brilliant. Recently signed to Fat Possum record label and having secured a spot supporting The Raveonettes, this is a collaboration that listeners will be hoping is here to stay.
