Love This Giant

Annie Clark’s playful, cerebral rock is a perfect match for art rock genius Byrne. Trumpets are everywhere here, and they work brilliantly so much of the time like on ‘Who’ and ‘The Forest Awakes’, in which stuttering horns punctuate a Clark vocal melody that takes dark, uncertain turns. The record, occasionally dazzling, demonstrates that Clark, after last year’s exceptional Strange Mercy, is in a rich vein of form, while Byrne, now sixty, is as vibrant and relevant as ever.
