Swain in car crash
Students’ Union President Elect, Nick Swain, was involved in a serious car accident on Wednesday afternoon, the _Boar_ has learnt.
Swain, who was returning home from an afternoon at the driving range, had stopped in traffic on Europa Way in South Leamington Spa when the following driver failed to brake, colliding with the back of his car, forcing it into the car in front, which in turn shunted the next car. Eyewitnesses reported seeing Swain’s car pushed temporarily on to its nose by the original impact, before the two vehicles were towed apart.
The President-elect, who was carrying no passengers, was left badly bruised but otherwise unhurt by the incident, although his car has been written off. Nobody else involved suffered serious injury. The driver who hit the back of Swain’s car, believed to be a woman aged around the age of 40 with little driving experience, was also unhurt, and was later given a lift to the station by Swain and his friends.
Swain told the _Boar_: “I was pretty shaken up given that I had no warning the crash was coming and I was stationary at the time, but I was glad to see that all the other drivers were OK too and that my friends were able to pull over and give me some assistance.”
He added: “I was annoyed to have been crashed into, but was determined to enjoy the last few days of term, even if I was in a bit of pain at the grad ball.”
25 tomorrow, Swain will assume the position of President at the beginning of the next academic year.
