Happy To You
Since the release of their eponymous debut album of 2009, Miike Snow have been favorites of indie-pop lovers everywhere. Wherever you choose to go out, you can expect to hear one of the singles from the debut LP – “Animal”, “Silvia”, “Black and Blue”. Naturally, then, expectations for their new album, released 13th March, were high.
To say that their sophomore album lives up to these expectations would sadly be far from true. Happy To You lacks the consistent brilliance present in their self-titled debut, and has considerably fewer songs that have the potential to be the partying sensations of summer 2012. This was why Miike Snow was such a brilliant album: almost every track was breathtakingly exciting and catchy enough to be used as a single. The release of “Paddling Out”, “Devil’s Work”, or “Black Tin Box” all lowered expectations for the new album, as they just about fell short of what we have come to expect from the group.
However, despite this, tracks such as “Bavarian #1 (Say You Will)”, featuring Swedish army drums, as well as “The Wave”, another single from the album, (that seems to share the same musical philosophy as the aforementioned track) carry the album, leaving you more than excited and reassured, thinking that Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg (AKA Bloodshy and Avant), and Andrew Wyatt are top-class and can deliver what the indie-pop lover is craving for. These tracks, along with “Archipelago” reflect the playfulness ever-present in the brilliantly crafted “Animal” and “Silvia” from their debut album.
