Pop/Art-pop/Indie Pop/Indie Electronica… who really knows? This chart-topping, Youtube sensation is a confusing creature. De Backer has presented us with an incoherent plethora of genres to battle through, from the techno-reggae rhythms of ‘State of the Art’, to the 80’s pop throw back ‘I Feel Better’. It’s a restless album of ups and downs, where the peaks (‘Somebody That I Used to Know’, ‘Smoke and Mirrors’) shine more brilliantly for the troughs about them.
