Style about campus

**Leslie Shen, 23,
Economics
Favourite Look: Vintage**

Leslie is a shy girl, perhaps aloof to some. When asked which clothing stores she most frequented, she gave a prompt dismissal, saying that we “would not have heard of them.” When we took her photograph, this shy woman transformed herself into a supermodel, adopting a pose most Chloé girls have yet to master.

Her style, as described by Leslie herself, is “vintage China”. Surely we can shine further light on her edgy look? Preppy-cum-Equestrian? Raided grandma’s wardrobe? Perhaps more of an enigma than we thought…

We love Leslie’s outfit, simply because it works. The bow tie gives hints of a European edge, whilst the cardigan locks her style firmly in its vintage roots. At first, we were thrown off by Leslie’s choice of footwear: boots? we wondered. Really? Then we realised: the simple collocation of the colour black dripping from neck to toe tied the whole outfit together perfectly. With Chanel-esque style, she knots a scarf around the handle of her bag, bringing a modern pop to the otherwise earthen tones of her outfit. The way she so effortlessly worked vintage with modern made her our favourite girl of the week.

**Jack Pusey, 19,
English and Theatre Studies
Favourite Look: Eccentric, Prep**

The quintessential theatre boy sat down to do his work in the Arts Centre, oblivious to our fashion sharking. We could not resist his platinum hair, oversized “could that have been his grandad’s?” jumper and nervous smile as we ran eagerly towards him.

Eclectic though his style may seem, there is something about it which makes it come together in one beautifully harmonious jumble. The almost cold, metallic tones in his jeans and hair are balanced by the warmer, gold patterns which run through his scarf and cardigan. These latter garments add a retro dynamic to the overall look; Jack could have been lifted straight out of the 80s. The bulky, burly upper-half complements the flamboyant, straight-leg jeans and any sense of top-heaviness is kept firmly in check.

Overall, this look of controlled eccentricity works really well, with some cosy patterned knitwear to complete an autumnal feel.
