Warwick student receives award in the House of Commons

Warwick graduate Tonica Hunter has been presented with an award for her academic achievements. Diane Abbott, the Shadow Health Minister and MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, presented her with the award.

The awards ceremony was held at the House of Commons, where Hunter won the category
for girls’ higher education thanks to her academic success. Diane Abbott commented: “All of
the shortlisted candidates were excellent, but Tonica is a really worthy winner in the Higher
Education Category.”

At Warwick, Hunter received a first-class BA degree in French and German. “I’m sure
Warwick is really proud of her” said Diane Abbott.

A spokesperson from the University commended her achievement. “We are delighted Tonica’s hard work has been recognised by the London Schools and Black Child award, and with a top ten position in the Future Leaders magazine. We are very proud of our graduates and to see this level of achievement is fantastic.”

However, her award was not based solely on her academic success. It was also presented to recognise her work within the community during her time at Warwick. Abbott stated: “She seems like a really driven young woman. I was struck by how she has involved herself in both her academic studies and her wider community.”
