Ritual
Every one’s favourite musical snobs Pitchfork gave Radio 1’s alternative music pet of 2009, White Lies new offering, 2.4/10. They.Are.Wrong. White Lies have followed up their hyped to oblivion, _To Lose a Life…_ with a more thoughtful and meticulous album in the from of _Ritual_. Clearly Pitchfork’s reviewer-in-question needed to bash it out to a deadline, and took aim at White Lies persona.
It takes one or two more repeats to realize the progress White Lies have made on _Ritual_. Ditching the amateurish reenactments of Joy Division from their debut, White Lies have now followed Bernard Sumner in to cavernous synth stratospheres.
Each track on _Ritual_ is a world in itself, unfolding slowly, embracing you in its blacker-than-black embrace. Crescendo is the name of the game as the album averages five minutes a song, but stick with it and you will be infinitely rewarded.
