Buses to increase
Following the discussions held between the University, the Students’ Union and the local bus companies , Stagecoach and Travel Coventry have agreed to increase the number of buses.
Stagecoach, which services Leamington, has added buses during the morning peak times this week. They have also put three extra buses in the Leamington depot on standby during the morning rush hour.
Students have long complained about the lack of adequate number of buses. Those living in north Leamington in particular have often seen full buses simply pass their stop and had to wait much longer for a less crowded bus. These new developments aim to improve the situation.
“Its about time,” said one Leamington resident.
In addition, Stagecoach has promised to monitor the demand for their bus services in the mornings. This may lead to further changes and improvements.
Travel Coventry is also reacting to the pressure from the SU and the University and has decided to monitor three of their main bus stops on the number 12 service for the next three weeks. It is expected that they will make changes after this time.
Isaac Newton, Communications Officer, thanked the University for their help explaining that “without them not so much would be achieved in such little time.”
The SU has said they are “pleased” with the actions taken by the bus companies.
They noted that now more than ever students will be relying on the bus rather than cars due to the issue of parking on campus. “We haven’t forgotten parking,” added Newton. Though no new developments have emerged Newton stresses that the SU is “still working with the University on several issues regarding transport.”
