E3 Sony Press Conference

Straight after the [Nintendo press conference](https://theboar.org/games/2009/jun/3/e3-nintendo-press-conference/), Sony had theirs, which was considerably more impressive. As always, below are the main announcements with opinions to follow.

#### Main Announcements

– Press conference started by saying “We’re industry leaders in big announcement leaks”.

– 364 game releases. 100 PS2 releases in next year.

– Uncharted 2 live game demo. Looked incredible, top-notch graphics and a very cinematic experience. Impressive draw distance. Announced that the multiplayer beta starts this evening (for people who bought InFamous last week).

– MAG live game demo. Huge 256 person 1st person shooter was squads and team leaders. Demo was supposedly all online and was running fine. Due this Fall.

– Tween games on PSP, including Hannah Montana (which got a cheer)!

– PSP Go! officially announced. Looked like a very nice piece of hardware, smaller and 40% lighter than PSP-3000. Has 16GB of internal memory and no UMD drive. Rather expensive, $250 so expect device to be around £200. Will be sold in addition to the PSP-3000, not to replace it.

– All PSP games, once PSP Go! is available, will be available through both retail and the PSN store.

– SenseMe (can’t remember what this was).

– PSP Video service: on PSP. Directly downloading through the PSP, no PC needed.

– Gran Turismo PSP which, although not a new announcement (originally mentioned in 2004!) finally coming out this October. Said to feature 800 cars and 35 tracks as well as Adhoc multiplayer.

– Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP. A true Metal Gear title, set in the 1970s after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3.

– PSP trailer showing: Resident Evil:PSP, LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM, Motorstorm: Article Circle, Harry Potter, Ratchet & Clank as well as a few more.

– FFVII on PSN / PSP available tonight.

– Agent, Rockstar game exclusive coming to only PS3. Only a logo was shown implying that it’s release is pretty far off.

– Assassin’s Creed 2 live game demo. Takes place in Italy in 1400s and will come out this Fall.

– Final Fantasy XIV announced and appears to be similar to FFXI, i.e. a MMO. Exclusive to PS3 but not the true next Final Fantasy.

– Sony announced a new motion controller and, although not as revolutionary as Project Natal (from Microsoft), it does seem easier to implement in games. Only showed tech demos and the hardware wasn’t final. It looked like a black WiiRemote with a ball stuck on the end that the PSEye camera could track. It’s best seen in action: [1](http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-playstation-3/50276) and [2](http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-playstation-3/50277).

– ModNationRacers announced, a kart game with a powerful but easy track creator. In a similar vein to LittleBigPlanet: another Play, Share, Create title.

– The Last Guardian announced. Third game in the ICO and Shadow of the Colesus trilogy. Includes some crazy huge dog/bird who’s the players friend.

– GT5 trailer shown but still no release date. Now seems to include Nascar and WRC elements.

– God of War 3 live game demo. Very similar gameplay to God of War 2, included Quick Time Events. Quality looked fantastic.
