SocSpy: German Society
Warwick’s German Society prides itself on providing an open, friendly and welcoming environment for all those interested in the German language and culture. As such, German Soc opens its door to everyone, regardless of whether its members can speak the language or not.
It’s clear that the emphasis is on socialising and having fun. There are regular socials catering for the hundred plus members, including ice-skating in Coventry, trips to the Christmas Markets in Birmingham and clubbing in Leamington.
And if that weren’t enough, only two weeks ago did a group of almost fifty return from a five-day tour of Munich which included visits to the zoo, Hofbräuhaus and various other eateries and watering holes.
Lottie Dunlavey, Social Secretary, told Soc Spy that the sell-out tour had been a wonderful success. She said: “Munich was amazing and really brought the group together. I’m proud to have been a part of it.”
Last week, the society also hosted a charity quiz in aid of Cancer Research in Robbin’s Well, Leamington.
With so much going on, German Soc has put itself in the running for Most Improved Society at this year’s Societies Awards. But regardless of whether they win or not, there’s no denying that there’s a real community spirit within the group. As the President, Mikayla Ward, says, “We’ve made a massive effort this year in order to bring people together. German Soc is really great fun and it’s been brilliant getting to know everyone.”
It seems the message is loud and clear: German Soc – das ist wunderbar!
