Charity week aims to raise £3,500
The plight of orphans around the world was brought to the attention of Warwick Students last week, as the annual Islamic Society (ISoc) Charity week took place.
The week-long schedule was organised by the Islamic society in collaboration with a nationwide appeal run by Islamic Relief. Last year they raised over £2,000 and they hope to top that this year with a goal of £3,500.
To achieve their target, ISoc organised various fundraising events throughout week five. They even braved the snow on Tuesday to sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts. They weren’t just appealing to a sweet tooth; there was henna painting, a football and netball tournament, as well as the traditional lectures. The highlight of the week was considered to be the Charity dinner in the Ramphal Building with a three course meal available for the reasonable price of six pounds.
This event is not confined to Warwick; it is a nationwide drive that aims to raise awareness, as well as money, for orphans in war-torn and poverty stricken areas all around the world. Though the emphasis is on raising money for disadvantaged orphans worldwide, there is also an alternative aim to develop the special bond between young Muslims all over the UK, irrespective of age, race or gender.
