Students planning to create a mural of books on the piazza

A group of students hope to unveil Warwick University’s first outdoor mural in Autumn 2015, with graduating students having an opportunity to put their favourite books on a bookshelf mural in the piazza.

The essence of this project is to catalogue the spirit of the students by compiling their dearest book titles and showcasing them in an artistically vivid bookshelf-themed painting.

The mural will be a virtual library and hopes to, as the authors of the page say, “defeat the monopoly of the colourless hue on campus”.

The founders of this initiative are requesting submissions of the name and author of a book that has either given impetus to the student’s academic expeditions, metamorphosed their worldview, proved to be a cathartic companion to laugh and cry to, or simply exhibited literary dominion.

The book can range from a bestseller to a religious scripture.

This proposal rests on student support to materialise, and there is a Facebook event page available as a hub for more information.

In addition, a passage explaining what the particular title meant to the student will be displayed anonymously on Facebook and Twitter to share with members of the Warwick student community.

Submissions must be directed to the Warwick Piazza Student Mural Facebook page or emailed to r.curati@warwick.ac.uk.

The last day to make an entry is 17 July.
