Ghost-Buster hired by Leamington railway station

A ‘Supernatural Liaison Officer’ has been hired by Leamington Spa train station after a recent spate of ghostly sightings.

The station management claimed that the job involves keeping the ghosts “in check”, by “ensuring that they do not eat customers’ sandwiches”, as well as by inspecting their tickets and “directing them to their train”. Garlic will also be handed out to customers, in an effort to ward off the spectres.

Warwick resident Nick Rees was approached by Chiltern Railways to fill the role, and now works voluntarily in Leamington as the expert ghost-buster.

The spookiest hotspots are said to be the abandoned basement of platform 3, and the upstairs office building, where managers claimed that “staff regularly see and hear things, including doors slamming and electrical equipment turning on and off”.

Despite the risks, Mr Rees remained confident: “I get on with people and I can make anyone smile. I suppose that’s why I can go about my duties as a Supernatural Liaison Officer. I respect them and they respect me”.

Night security guard Stephen Herbert explained: “I often see and hear ghosts on both platforms, but from what I have seen they are nice ghosts and have good energy.”

This is not the first time paranormal forces have disturbed local residents. In 2011, former Good Morning presenter Anne Diamond claimed that a ghost tried selling her a house near Warwick Castle.

Many Warwick students, however, seem less phased by the Station’s reports. Second-year Computer Science student George Sproston calls them “a load of rubbish”, while History & Sociology undergrad Vaughan Tinsley simply asks “Why?”

Nonetheless, with the otherworldly crescendo of Halloween approaching later this week, those on the rails may still be crossing their fingers just in case.
