OWW given Inspire mark

One World Week Sport has been awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark, which recognises the society’s contribution to sport and community.

The badge of the London 2012 Inspire programme, which recognises exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the 2012 Games, can now be used on One World Week Sport’s advertising and marketing materials.

“The logo demonstrates the team’s hard work,” said Students’ Union Sports Officer Chris Sury.

“Hopefully it will increase publicity, particularly to those who are interested in all Olympic values.”

“We have not been told why One World Week Sport stood out to the judges,” said One World Week 2012 Coordinator Julian Ried.

“We can only guess that the three important factors were the fact we try to encourage students from all backgrounds to participate in sport, some of our sports events for One World Week 2012 are Olympics-themed and we have more than 5,000 participants in One World Week Sport each year.”

One World Week Sport organises numerous events, including football tournaments and cricket matches.

For the first time this year in spirit of the Olympics, will be an Athletics event to find the fastest man and woman at the university.

Warwick Sport has also applied for an Inspire Mark to recognise sports clubs’ work in the community, such as volunteering in local schools.

Around 2,000 projects and events have been awarded the badge nationwide for their work in sustainability, education, volunteering, business, sport or culture.

The seventeenth annual One World Week will take place in Week 3 this term, holding a series of events to encourage people to embrace the different cultures of the world.
