Union staff in firing range

It has emerged that there will be compulsory redundancies at the Students’ Union, following plans to offer voluntary redundancies to all staff earlier in the year.

Union officials have refused to say exactly how many jobs will be axed but it is believed that the cuts will be in several areas. This has arisen out of the Union’s need to cut expenses. The current forecasts predict a shortfall of £66,000.

President of the Students’ Union Andrew Bradley stated in response: “As part of the ongoing sustainability review being conducted by the Board of Trustees, it has been recognised that restructuring is crucial to the long term financial stability of the Union. Some compulsory redundancies will unfortunately have to take place.”

It will not be until mid-July that final staff numbers to be made redundant will be known.
