Chaos at Leam nightclub prompts police action

Overcrowding outside Leamington nightclub Evolve on Monday prompted police action to control the situation.

Hundreds of Warwick students turned up to queue for the club’s Notorious Mondays event.

Police officers at the scene said there were too many people and it was becoming “a dangerous situation”. They said they had to get it under control.

People were reportedly queuing up to an hour before the event began at 11pm.

Students spilled out onto the street, which was closed by Warwickshire Police.

Bethany Thomson, who was in the queue, told the _Boar_: “It was ridiculous – I was being crushed by the metal bars. The police properly pushed me out of the queue.”

Third-year Chemistry student Emily Robinson said she could not breathe whilst she was in the queue as she was being pushed against the railings.

Reports of injuries were dismissed by the police at the scene.

One policewoman told the _Boar_ at the scene: “I haven’t seen anything like this. I’ve been in the police for six years.”

The _Boar_ Evolve, which will host its first Jagermonster on Friday, was unavailable for comment.
