Poetry Slam Freshers Profile

The Poetry Slam society provides a platform for anyone to explore the art of the spoken word, or ‘poetry slamming’, no need to be an English Literature student or a literary genius! This society gives people the opportunity for self-expression during open mic nights twice a term and workshops for writing performance poetry as well. They are in their second year and were shortlisted for ‘Best New Society’ at the Society Awards last year – definitely one to look out for! Co-president Andreas Avraam says that “a lot of people are nervous about sharing something so personal to them… but after you experience the buzz of performing to people, you will be hooked.” And co-president Annmarie McQueen adds: “it’s a special experience to see people sharing themselves with the audience in such an intimate way”. The membership fee is £3, and you can join up on warwicksu.com/societies under the ‘Performance’ category. They’d be happy to answer any questions if you email warwickpoets@gmail.com!
