Shakespeare Society – New Year Update

Welcome, friends, to Shakespeare Society! We’re a performance and education society that focuses on the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries.

Every term we find students to become involved in a production of a Shakespeare play (or a play from one of his contemporaries – they’re all fair game too!) and the first show you can get involved in this year is the Bard’s very own The Merchant of Venice! Auditions are scheduled to take place on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of October. Find us on Facebook or Twitter (see below) for details on auditioning closer to the time.

ShakeSoc is also going to be …

  • Bringing in professional companies to run workshops with our members.
  • Working with local schools on running our own workshops/small productions for school-children.
  • Taking advantage of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) student coach trips (which will hopefully have ‘meet the cast’ features!) along with socials to any other nearby Shakespeare – themed performances.
  • Running a casual scratch night early on in Term 1 for anyone interested in minimal commitment acting or directing of a Shakespeare scene!

The details for all of these events will be made readily available online and in our society email (which members will receive weekly). We will always try and subsidise members’ tickets for socials to theatre/film events and prioritise members if workshops etc. have limited placements. To keep up to date with the society without a membership make sure to…

  • Add ‘ShakeSoc Warwick’ as a friend on Facebook.
  • Join the Facebook group ‘Warwick University Shakespeare Society.’
  • Follow ‘@warwickshakesoc’ on Twitter.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
