World renowned neurologist to visit Warwick

**Dr Oliver Sacks, renowned neurologist and author, will come to Warwick in March as a visiting professor as part of the Institute of Advanced Study (IAS).**

The inventory for Dr Sacks’ visit has not yet been released, though he will visit at least once per year as part of the IAS.

Rosalind Lucas, Programme Co-ordinator at the IAS, anticipates Dr Sacks will visit Warwick in the first two weeks of March 2013 when he will give at least one public lecture. The finalised programme will be published on Warwick insite, the IAS webpages and Twitter.

Dr Sacks is visiting as part of a consortium-building applied science research institute called the Centre for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) in New York. Dr Sacks will largely be working with academic colleagues within his own discipline as well as Warwick’ s public engagement work.

Warwick’s comparatively large number of postgraduate and post-doctoral research students will also benefit from Dr Sacks’ provision of master classes with the aid of Warwick academics within his discipline.

James Dunham, a second-year PPE student, said that Dr Sacks’ status in his field meant that his arrival at Warwick would encourage students to interact with academics both inside and outside their chosen field of study.

Dr Sacks is a best-selling author, known for his collections of neurological case histories such as ‘The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat’ and ‘Musicology: Tales of Music and the Brain’.

He is also a professor of neurology at the NYU School of Medicine and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
