Students switch off again

Students are to be rewarded once again this year for small energy saving actions in their halls of residence.

The Student Switch Off Campaign encourages students to limit the amount of electricity they use by turning off lights and appliances whenever possible.

In return, prizes are rewarded to the best energy conserving hall of residence at the end of the year, and to students who sign up to be Eco-Power Rangers. 400 students have already signed up with the chance to win Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and free tickets to Top B. Last year’s winning hall, Craycroft, received a free Green Party courtesy of the campaign.

Other environmental schemes initiated by the University include February’s move by the Students’ Union to gain University officials’ commitment in implementing recycling in every kitchen on campus. The meeting was especially timely given that it took place during Go Green Week. As a result of the meeting, the Union resolved to collaborate with Warwick Accommodation and Estates in implementing this scheme by September 2008.
