Clinical Trials Unit for medical school

Warwick Medical School has recently received more than £5 million for a new Clinical Trials Unit (CTU). The improved facility, funded largely by Advantage West Midlands, will focus particularly on trials for cancer, musco-skeletal and emergency care.

Since its establishment in 2005, the CTU has grown rapidly, so more space is needed to accommodate the leading research on medical science. The work now underway aims to meet the highest environmental standards. Like Warwick’s new Tennis Centre, the building is expected to achieve a BREEAM status as it will target new standards of sustainability.

MacCormac Jamieson Prichard architects are designing a compact building which allows for natural ventilation and natural daylight through a large central atrium. Other features will include a combined zinc roof and use external solar shading.

The CTU will accommodate a team of around 75 academics and should be finished by September 2009.
